What is Your Fitness?
One of the Superbowl commercials this year was Freak Show - Be More Human by Reebok. I've now also seen it on regular TV. I've read a few comments about the commercial. One of the comments was negative and expressed the view of the writer that the commercial made her feel inadequate, that it gave the fitness world a bad name, and made fitness folks appear too competitive and "crazy". Some comments were completely opposite saying how the commercial was inspiring. Have you seen this Reebok commercial?[embed]http://youtu.be/UDb-7DY3CjU[/embed]I think I am inspired by the commercial. These people may be "crazy", but in a good way. These are normal folks with jobs, families, real life. They are not paid to work out, but do it for all of the things that comes from being fit. While I am inspired by watching these people, I could also allow myself to compare myself to them and feel defeated. If I let myself play the comparison game . . .This is a point with which I sometimes wrestle. I used to often want to be "more". More active, stronger, more fit, more competitive or more like other people I know who are more "crazy" than I am with this whole fitness game. I realize that just because I am in this business, I am not perfect. Sometimes I skip a workout, simply mail in a workout, barely make it through teaching a class and, of course, eat pizza, drink wine or have desserts at times. Here's where I am now. I consider myself at my healthiest because the best thing I do is my best. I have finally gotten to the point of knowing what works for me, what is best for my body, energy and fitness. I don't feel guilty about the missed workouts or indulgences that make life so sweet. I've never run a full marathon or done an Ironman. At this point, it's pretty certain I never will! But I'm okay with that.Everyone's fitness is their own. There are things I do and do not do because I know my body and what demands it can handle. I do not exercise to compete with anyone, my own fitness is about my love for it and sharing this love. I have a very fit friend who wouldn't dream of stepping a foot inside of a gym, yet she walks miles and miles weekly and never stops moving. I have another friend who can get into these amazing yoga poses I dream about. I know folks who get up every single morning before the sun rises to get in a run before coming home to get children off to school. These people do what makes them fit in their own skins. You may need long walks with your dog or hikes in the woods. You may love Zumba or doing DVDs in your living room. Perhaps you are a freak about tennis. Maybe you are one of those weekend warriors who goes all out on the weekend because that's the only time you have. All of these things that make up your lifestyle are okay. They are all perfect if they make you feel inspired. If you are doing and giving your very best then what everyone else does is not your perfect fit. Your life is unique and your own fitness routine is to make you feel energized and inspired. There is no comparison! What is your fitness? What inspires you? How do you feel about this Reebok commercial?Enjoy your Day! Be Inspired!
