New Season Changes . . .
At the beginning of each new season I make a list of things I want to accomplish or focus on. I began this a few years ago as summer approached. I’ve now added it to Fall, Winter and Spring.
Recently, one of my sons asked me what my goals were for the Fall. He was totally in the “get back to school mode” and I was still hanging on to summer with every part of my being. I told him I was still working on my Summer List, so I’d have to get back with him.
As this new season is on me, I’ve decided to take a little different approach. I’m looking at how I currently feel in the three areas of wellbeing that I talk about, meaning physically, mentally and in the heart. I’ve been getting real with myself, asking myself some questions and working on pieces of each of these areas that could use a little boost or change.
I’m looking at it like this. . .
Have you thought of this?
Let me dissect this a bit into three areas: Food & Movement, Mindset and Heart
How do you feel physically?
If you don’t like the way you feel, in that you don’t have energy, you feel sluggish, tired, low energy, and bloated, what needs to change?
Likely, your diet needs to be tweaked to add in good, nutrient dense foods, lower glycemic foods and foods that make you feel good and promote your energy and health.
Do you not feel as strong, physically energetic, as you’d like?
Do you feel stiff, achey in your joints, unmotivated to move?
There are changes that can help you feel stronger, lighter, more mobile.
The changes don’t have to be big and complicated either. Starting small and being consistent bring a big bang for your buck.
How do you feel mentally?
Do you feel distracted? Unfocused? Sometimes like there is not enough mental space in your head to find some clarity.
Do you feel negative and pessimistic? Or do you feel purposeful? Clear on your goals, abilities, contributions?
Is your mind cluttered with too much content? Too many distractions from people, news, social media?
Once you identify how you feel and whether you like it or not you can decide what is working for you and what is not working. Where can you make necessary changes?
What we consume, what we allow into our minds by way of books, news, TV, friends, gossip, social media all adds up and is going to either make us feel clear and purposeful and focused or completely not.
How do you feel in your heart and soul?
Think about how you feel and your emotional state.
How do you want to feel? Can you put a name on what it is you want to feel in your heart?
What can you change to get to that feeling?
Personally, I want to feel content, grateful and at peace.
It seems as if I’m just throwing a lot of questions you way. Of course I don’t have all of the answers and that’s okay. Oftentimes the most important step we can take is to ask ourselves the questions. This is how we self-coach.
This is a wonderful exercise to enter into this season and think about what changes you can create by the end of this Fall/Winter and leading into another season.
Along the same lines is my latest Walk & Talk. . . .
What are your thoughts?
After talking with one of my sons, who had deleted the Instagram app a while back, I did the same over the weekend. And I felt much less distracted, among other things. (: I hope to be more in your inbox (like old times) and less on social media. I think it will be a healthier way to share. . .
Be Well!
