Growing Into Wellness
I've loved all things health and fitness for a mighty long time. It was reinforced watching my parents battle thier own health issues that affected their quality of life. That helped me move from exercising for the outward results (like those skinny jeans) and focusing on all of the health benefits - both inside and out - strength, endorphins and stress management.During my 30's and 40's my focus turned to nutrition and the importance of fueling our bodies. I branced out from not only teaching fitness classes and training clients to receiving a nutriton certification. At a certain age most of us cannot out train a poor diet. I learned and share that our bodies are not bank accounts. That means it is NOT about calories in and calories out. If you have followed me here you know I am a non-diet believer. Diets do not work. Diets are something that one begins and ultimately leaves behind. If new habits and a new healthy lifestyle does not become a part of you in that diet, then the tendency is for the old habits to return, leaving you right back where you started. I learned to eat and nurture my body intuitively. I began coaching on intuitive eating and truly takin care of our bodies - not punishing them - and, most importantly, appreciating all the miraculous things we GET to do each day.As I enter into a new season my view on wellness stresses the imortance of mindset. Health is not only our exercise and nutrition, but what we feed our minds, how we bring positivity and light into ourselves that brings about a healthy lifestyle. How we view our circumstances, learn resiliance, nurture ourselves, manage stress and how we lift ourselves up each and every day will bring us to our best and healthiest selves. Being mindful and creating an individual method of curating our mental health. This is the third part of longevity - and may be the MOST important! We can do all the squats (and I do love some squats!), eat all the kale (love me some kale, too!) but will not be healthy or experience well-being without learning how to train our minds to grow to be healthy, strong and also peaceful. You may have noticed that I have not been in this space regularly for quite some time. I have struggled with what to do with this site. I've had a pretty major life shift and do not feel that writing and sharing the same types of information serves. I will slowly begin writing and sharing here with you again. However, the tone may be different and new. It may not be to your liking or your interest and needs. And that's okay and won't hurt my feelings. I have always been a sharer and often an over-sharer on some of my experiences in the hopes that someone may get some little nugget that can inspire, motivate or cheer them on. Also, being completely transparent, selfish and honest here, putting some of what I have learned from my circumstances and thoughts on paper is a also step forward for me.There is no age limit on learning, being inspired and personal growth. Wellness is a continual growth process and encompasses so much more than what we eat and how much we exercise. For these reasons, my writing may be a bit more broad, maybe a little raw and more personal. So, if you are up for moving forward with me, then I'm so happy you'll continue hanging out here with me.It is all about sharing wellness so, here we go!
