Shortcuts from the Grocery Store

I've said it before.  Eating healthy doesn't have to come from expensive grocery stores and doesn't have to take up all of your time concocting every single thing from scratch.  I did a quick run into my local Publix yesterday and came out with some great shortcuts to share.img_2725I love to have frozen, shelled edamame is great to have on hand in the freezer for a quick side.  You can get this at most any grocery store.  Boiled eggs make a great healthy snack, addition to salads, topping for avocado toast, you name it.  However, as much as I love to have them on hand, I sometimes forget to take the time to boil up a batch.  I grabbed these already boiled eggs as a shortcut for the week.  Nuts and seeds are one of the best snacks on the planet.  Sometimes they can be so pricey, though, you know?  This resealable bag of almonds and walnuts was only $3.99, a ton lower than the $7.00 or higher we often see at the store.I'm not sure what it is but my family seems to love barbecue sauce.  I use it in meatloaf, for quick pulled pork or chicken, and my boys are known to dip most anything in it.  While I do like to make my own, I don't always have homemade sauce on hand.  Store bought sauce is jam packed loaded with sugar.  Have you checked the labels?  I picked up this sugar free barbecue sauce to use for a pulled pork slider.img_2726Check out the label:img_2727I picked up a Publix brand black bean soup from the deli area.  I tried this last week and it's really tasty and great for a quick lunch.img_2729img_2728Check out the label, 290 calories for the entire container, 15 grams of protein, 22 grams of fiber and 5 grams of sugar.  So good to have on hand at home or in your fridge at work.  If you don't have your own neighborhood Publix, check out the deli area of your local grocery and see what they may have to help you out.Last night I served a chicken marinara dish over pasta for the men in my house.  My favorite way to eat this is with spaghetti squash rather than  pasta, but how about trying this shiratake spaghetti if you don't have time to prepare the squash? Talk about quick!  I basically drained it and put it on a plate!img_2730Another thing that makes life easier is good old fashioned jar marinara sauce.  Of course, we could all make our own, put it in a container, label and keep in the freezer.  That's in the perfect world so it just doesn't always happen.  Check out the labels in your grocery to choose that with the least sugar and sodium.  It's another great shortcut.Alrighty then, those are my shortcut tips for your shopping!  Don't feel guilty about taking advantage of what your local grocery store offers!Have any favorite shortcuts of your own?  I'd love to hear them!Enjoy Your Day!Signature
