Recent Reads and Cool Deals for You!

Joseph_AddisonIf I am not talking health and fitness, and, of course, food, then I am talking books.  I love books.  Therefore, I occasionally update with good reads I've completed.  Books are so subjective that sometimes I hesitate to really recommend something that I love because another person may think it a bad choice.  Since I am always looking for the next book and constantly asking people what they reading, I'll continue to share -  just in case there are a few of you out there looking for new books and might see something that sparks an interest.I have mentioned before that not only do I like to read a book, but also like to listen to books.  Usually, I have a book loaded on my Kindle and another on my IPhone through audible.com.  I have come to the conclusion that some books are actually better when listened to rather than when read.  If you haven't tried a Kindle and think it might not be for you (I was once just like you until I tried it!) or if you haven't tried listening to audiobooks, I've got a couple of deals for you!  Check these out!  You may even want to try them out on one of the reads I'm about to share!I have grown to love my Kindle.  It is small, flat, light and easy to see in the sun.  It goes with me everywhere.  I love the Kindle Paperwhite because of the non-glare feature. And my last deal of the day is from Audible. I LOVE this company and format for listening to books! You simply find a book, download it to your mp3 player or smartphone and you are set for listening while you walk, run, take long car rides, work in your yard or even clean your house. This is a GREAT way to try it if you haven't! You get TWO FREE BOOKS! How can you pass that up?Now to the good stuff. I think I'll begin with my most recents . . .Yesterday, while finishing some Spring planting outside I finished listening to The Rainbow Comes and Goes by Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt. I found this simply fascinating. And this is a book I highly recommend in the audio version. Each chapter is narrated by either Anderson Cooper or Gloria Vanderbilt. To hear them speak their own stories makes it much more powerful.Next on my list is The Swans of Fifth Avenue which is the story of some of the famous socialites of New York who were friends of Truman Capote during his rise to fame. This book mentions the presence of Gloria Vanderbilt on a couple of occasions so that dovetailed when I began listing to Rainbow.I listened to A Thousand Miles to Freedom by Eunsun Kim. This is a memoir depicting the authors 9 year journey escaping North Korea and its horrors to finally reach South Korea and begin a new life. I'm not sure I would have had the patience to read this book, as it is written somewhat as the author must speak in remembering her tale. I did enjoy listening to it and as I'm not very familiar with this topic really appreciated her story. Before that I read Elizabeth Strout's My Name is Lucy Barton. I'm not sure what I really thought of this book. It is rather dryly written so maybe that's why I don't have a lot of emotion tied up in this book. I'd like to know your thoughts . . .I listened to Black Eyed Susans. I downloaded this book because it was on special for $2.99 and I was out of audible credits for the month! However, it was a good, engaging mystery that kept me wanting to find excuses to walk the dogs so I could keep listening! The last two things on my list to share is a book I listened through Audible called The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens. This was an unexpected find as I thought I was just filling time with a free audiobook. However, this was a good story told from a college boy from a complicated family who in writing an english paper helps uncover the truth behind an old crime.Lastly, if you read JoJo Moyes, then you MUST get this book ASAP!   The Girl You Left Behind is the follow up to Me Before You and is really good. And if you haven't read JoJo Moyes, you need to discover her! She is a really creative storyteller with solid, believable characters.Whew! That was a wee bit longer than I anticipated! Surely, some of these should keep you busy for a bit! Now, I am empty handed as far as what is next on my list . . . Any suggestions?  Thanks for hanging in there. I'm off to finish a few more updates on Refresh & Reboot program that launches SUNDAY!! And, unfortunately, then to do some ironing and laundry . . . What are you up to this weekend? What are you reading? Recommend? Anyone hate to iron as much as I do?Enjoy Your Day!Signature
