Blue Apron. . . My experience

I had the most pleasant surprise recently.  I pulled into my driveway and noticed a big brown box sitting at my front door.  Well, I knew I had not ordered anything as I am on my spending and shopping hiatus for 6 months as part of my Live Intentionally New Year's Resolution - which I have now challenged myself to 12 months.  I really need to write about this because it has brought about some interesting changes . . . Anyway, back to the box. When I got closer I saw the label Blue Apron on the top.  Sweet!  It was food!  For dinner!  That night!  Which was great because it had been a crazy day and I hadn't done my normal job of actually planning and getting stuff for dinner.  What perfect timing from my sweet friend Meredith. My friend mentioned she was sending me a referral to try after she read my post on Garnish & Gather.  Of course, I was thrilled because I have heard and read so many good things about Blue Apron.  I had actually scheduled it for delivery and in my whirlwind of a day  had forgotten it.  What great timing!  My friend says she uses Blue Apron regularly and have always had great meals so I knew we would also have a good meal.  If anyone needs a good, healthy, convenient service like this it is Meredith, who works full time and is an amazing mom . . . to twin boys! Just the thought of making it through one of her days totally exhausts me!This is what awaited me . . .IMG_1466I opened the box to find everything packed beautifully and efficiently in insulated material on top of several ice packs.IMG_1467I unpacked all the goodies.  It was like opening a perfectly wrapped present, except it was full of fresh vegetables, meats and ingredients. . .IMG_1468All I had to do was pull out the sheet of directions which were super easy, whip out my knife for some chopping and a couple of pans for sautéing.IMG_1473IMG_1471It was really nice to have wonderful, fresh ingredients, measured and ready to prepare.  It was really nice to have something different planned for dinner, with no racking my brain for new ideas.  After following the directions, pulling everything together in no time, all I had to do was set the table and call in the troops. What a lovely pre-dinner and dinner time!Blue Apron DinnerIsn't that just lovely?  It was really tasty, too.  My one fear was that there would not be enough to feed my boys because they can be quite big eaters.  For this reason, I played the martyr mom and did not prepare myself a plate.  I'm happy to say there was enough for me to have a delicious lunch the following day.Everyone was happy.I would recommend anyone try Blue Apron.  The options are healthy and fresh and so nice for those crazy days.  I felt so much better whipping this together in the same amount of time that it would take to order delivery pizza. If you are curious, check it out HERE.  They have a wonderful website and I loved reading about their mission to bring accessible cooking to everyone, their engagement in sustainability, and working with local growers and sources.  They have also branched out to wine delivery, recipe offerings and a marketplace to purchase lots of awesome kitchen stuff. In all honesty, I had one little complaint.  Delivery days are on Thursdays and I would rather it be earlier in the week.  For some reasons Thursday nights are the night that are often fluid in our home.  That is the night that we might not all be sitting down for dinner, The Husband might be traveling or my planned dinner just doesn't happen due to sports, or meetings or activities.    Therefore, I would worry that if we couldn't eat it Thursday night, then the weekend would hit and we would all scattered, so then we might not eat all that fabulous, fresh food.  And if  you know me you know how I hate waste!  Therefore, that is my one small complaint.  It is likely just my family issue, and might not be a thought for the majority of folks.Have you tried Blue Apron?  What was  your experience?  Are you a regular?  What are your crazy nights?  How do you get dinner on the table?  Do you have fluid nights in your home?  Enjoy Your Day!Signature
