It's all in a Good Playlist . . .

How important is music to you while you workout?  It is huge for me and one of the biggest elements in teaching a class and in taking a class.  I'm not going to lie, music gets me going and, especially, if I'm not quite in the mood to exercise, a good playlist will definitely turn that around.  On the other hand, bad music can make a workout seem soooo long and feel as if it will NEVER end.  In fact, scientific studies show that there is a 15% improvement in endurance when a music is used in a workout.I know all folks don't feel as strongly about the music as I do.  I know folks who can marathon train and run with no music.  I so admire those people!  I honestly do not have the mental fortitude to get through that without some upbeat tune to keep me going.Music for classes is a constant "order of business" for me.  I remember long ago when I had to purchase an entire CD just to get one song.  Then I had to record that one song onto a cassette and piece songs together music for class. Talk about time consuming!  I know I spent much more on music than I actually ever made from teaching a class!  Then along came ITunes.  Thank heavens!  That has been my "go to" for music and making playlists.  I'm always on the lookout for fresh songs.  If I am in the car listening to the radio I always have pen and sticky note on hand to jot down a song, or lately I've taken to just snapping a photo of the song listing on the dashboard.  Genius! Most recently, the Middle Son has talked me into trying Spotify.  He tells me I'll save money paying the $9.99 monthly fee for all the music I might need as opposed to paying $1.29 per song on ITunes.  So, I'm giving it a try.  Although it is a bit like teaching an old dog new tricks.  I have had to have his help a few times getting with the program.  Thank goodness he's a patient son.I think it's all turning out pretty well.  I've had some great compliments on my music lately and I've energized my own workouts with my music. Here are my latest fun Playlists to share.  One from ITunes and one from Spotify.  The Spotify link for 2015 Sculpt playlist. Here is my most recent ITunes Playlist.Screen Shot 2015-03-01 at 1.29.07 PM This part of planning and formatting a class, whether it is a body sculpt, high intensity interval, yoga or spin class is fun.  It can also be pretty time consuming and make you a little crazy because there are so many different tastes in music.  I try to have positive, upbeat music, some current, some old, even a little Country thrown in, to try to reach a little bit of everyone's tastes.Feel free to throw out some song suggestions!  I'm always looking . . .What type of music motivates you?  What do you exercise to?  Or do you find music a distraction?  How do you get your music?  Are you an ITunes or Spotify fan or something else?Enjoy your Day!Signature
