The Age Dilemma

I’ve talked about the Diet Dilemma recently.  Today I’m sharing about something that seems to be on the minds of most folks that are at least my age, nearing my age or past my age.  I’m not sure why this topic has been swirling in my head lately.  Perhaps it is because it is a birthday month and I’ll be tacking another number to my age.

Ageing can be tricky for some people.  It is not something that only affects women either.  I have found that there are just as many men out there who want to fight the signs, outwardly and inwardly, of ageing just as much as us females.

First of all, let me say that I am thankful that I am okay with getting older.  I just want to do it my way. I want to stay strong, healthy and fit so that I can continue doing what I want as long as I want.  Some of that has to do with My Story, I believe.  I love that we have this great big life to live.  I really want to take each day as the gift it is and be able physically, mentally, and spiritually to soak it up and do something with it.

Of course, I would be lying if I said that some of the outward signs of getting a older don’t get to me.  I obviously do not look like I did when I was in my twenties.  Heck, I don’t look like I did even ten or five years ago.  While in my heart I think I am stuck at the age of 38, I know I do not look like I did when I was that age.  I am okay with that.

My goal is to be the best at the age I am.  I am a huge people watcher.  I actually do not mind arriving early at an airport so I can sit and simply watch all the people around me.  I notice people and how they look.  I don’t particularly notice whether a person looks old or not, but I do notice whether they look healthy.  I love seeing a person look fit, vibrant and engaged in life, whether they are in an airport, in the gym or in the grocery line.  That person looks so much better than a person who tries to look younger by wearing certain clothes, hairstyles or other noticeable artificial means.  Those are the folks who are aging well, who have gotten this getting older thing down and are set to live a full, healthy life.

A healthy lifestyle shows.  Strong bodies, bright eyes, healthy skin and hair makes a person appear more youthful.  Having an interest in life, pursuing passions and hobbies, and being fit to do those things makes a person feel more youthful.

That is so important.  Creating a balanced healthy lifestyle will keep us going, moving, creating, enjoying, learning, and giving back for a mighty long time.  Fighting the physical and mental ramifications,  as well as continuing to look our best,  are wonderful by-products of living healthy.  So, I’d love for folks to get off the whole looking younger is everything train.  Life brings experiences, adventures, and different journeys.  Let’s focus on those things!  Let’s focus on being the best we can at the age we are on any given day!

Enjoy Your Day!
