I love to eat seasonally and think it’s a healthier way to eat, both by eating what is fresh and closest to nature, but also friendlier to the environment. This time of year, with so many vegetables and fruits are in season, is my favorite time to eat. Growing up in a small town in the South, this was a big time of picking, harvesting, eating and putting up fresh foods for later. I loved those evening suppers with fresh corn, lady peas, tomatoes and either blackberries, watermelon or peaches for dessert.
There are always certain foods I keep on hand that I eat regularly. You can always find a big bowl of fruit in the kitchen. You can always find coconut milk in my fridge for smoothies. There are always lemons to slice to put in water bottles. I always have fresh spinach and greens on hand for salads. Today I’m sharing a few other things that are in the kitchen that I’ve been eating.
Now that the weather has gotten warm again I’m back to morning green drinks. They are light, cool and refreshing. They are also a great way to begin the day in a healthy way. If you start your day with a fresh, green drink you know you’ve done something good for the day!

This is the perfect time for tomatoes. I have been picking ones from our plants, buying them at the Farmer’s Market and from the side of the road on a recent trip to South Georgia. They are perfect sliced, by themselves, on salads, and, yes, make the best sandwich in the world. (If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen my Tomato Sandwich post. I am not telling you that a slice of white bread is the best nutritionally, but it makes a tomato sandwich heavenly)
I picked these up at the Farmer’s Market, rinsed and put them in a bowl for everyone to snag. They are juicy, sweet and so good. On the healthy front, cherries are wonderful for fighting inflammation.
I made a big quinoa salad and have been having this for either lunch or dinner (or both) all week. It’s light, refreshing and filling. Want a good recipe? Look HERE
I honestly think I eat some avocado daily. This is the perfect food for getting your quota of healthy fat. Also, I love it on a salad, not just for the taste and health benefits, but it makes a wonderful substitute for cheese.
What foods are you eating this week? I hope they are as good as these!
Enjoy Your Day!
