This weekend begins the official celebration of summertime – by far most folks favorite time of year. Celebrating Memorial Day is a wonderful tradition for the real reason behind it and because the celebration usually calls for being outside, sharing great outdoor foods with family and friends. If you are preparing your own celebration I have some of my old favorites to share with you.

Now to my new favorite summertime drink. Last summer I watched some show where the specialty drink was the blast from the past Tequila Sunrise. It looked wonderfully refreshing, pretty and hopefully, not too sweet. At my next opportunity I ordered one when out and fell in love. It was the perfect fun cocktail for a summer evening. It has become a fun “go to” summertime drink. If you want something different when out or to make for guests, try this old fashioned drink for a little surprise. (I go light on the grenadine to cut the sweetness and at home use lighter OJ)
Tequila Sunrise
4 ounces orange juice
2 ounces tequila
1/2 ounce grenadine
Orange slice for garnish
Maraschino cherry for garnish
How to Make It
Pour the tequila and the orange juice into a highball glass with ice cubes.
Stir.
Slowly pour the grenadine around the inside edge of the glass. It will sink and slowly rise to mix with the other ingredients naturally.
Garnish with the orange slice and cherry.
Enjoy Your Day!
