Health Hacks #2

It’s the beginning of a new month so time for a new set o Health Hacks for you to try!  Did you try any of those suggested for October?  Can  you even remember that far back?  In case you are wondering or want a refresher, take a look at Health Hacks #1 !  Anyone get any help in getting out of bed, being prepared or getting ion more steps?

Well, this month I have three more hacks for you to try.  Here we go.

  1.  Make a Favorite Music Playlist.  I can’t really take credit for this, but it is something that I have done in the past for fun without even thinking of the health benefits.  Kenny Chesney says, “music is medicine” and I believe that to be true on many levels.  Music can make us feel good, put a smile on a face, bring back a happy memory, motivate us to workout and flat out make us happy.  Happiness leads to healthiness, so there you go.  I have a playlist of random songs that I love to listen to anytime.  I can turn on this playlist and any of these songs can make my grouchiness go away.  It’s great to turn on during a  car ride, walking the dog or even cooking dinner.  Think about the songs that make you smile, gather them in a playlist and you’ll be set.  And half the fun is making the list and continuing to add to it!  I love this so much I’ll even share mine with you.  Here you go. . .

2.  Focus on Moving More.  Every Day.  Did you know that if you sit 10 hours a day or longer your risk of heart disease increases by 8 percent?  Even if you do get in an hour of exercise daily that does not negate the harm done and the risk of cardiovascular disease that comes with being sedentary.  So, during this month, focus on moving as much as you can on a daily basis, pace while talking on the phone, do your computer work standing, or getting up and walking around during commercials.  Do whatever you can to decrease any risk of heart disease.

3.  Get Some Nature.  Find some time to get outside, and make yourself notice your surroundings.  It is a wonderful way to destress, find calm, lower anxiety and decompress.  When I was growing up my mother would disappear to walk around our yard.  She would stop to check on her plum trees, blueberry bushes, daylilies, roses,  birdhouses and whatnot.  I used to think this was just one of her quirks.   Now I find myself doing the same thing.  Some days I walk outside and notice some new growth, pull a weed, see a new bud.  I’ve found that even if it’s only a ten minute escape I immediately feel better.
