It’s that time of year to get in the  kitchen and whip up some of your favorite cookies, candies, cakes and treats.  I used to spend so many hours with my mom in our yellow galley kitchen creating so many different Christmas treats.  We baked and gave away, baked some more, gave away some more and then did it again.  Some of my mom’s recipes took FOREVER!  She had some very labor intensive recipes calling for lots and lots of chopping (fruit cake cookies, date nut balls), lots of stirring (old fashioned toll house cookies) the perfect weather (divinity) and lots of time (homemade decorated sugar cookies).  She was a patient creator and did not mind spending all that time in the kitchen.

I’ve been part of FitApproach’s Holiday Sweat Challenge and this week we are talking about favorite healthy recipes.  In keeping with the Season, I decided it’s a great time to share some of my favorite Holiday treats.  I always say this is the time of year to Maintain and NOT Gain.  This means you can enjoy all the goodness of the Season but not roll into the New Year carrying any new pesky pounds.

When talking about making and baking treats, let’s be real, through.  We don’t always have hours and hours to spend.  Sometimes we do and we can go all in.  Other times, I want to be able to whip something up that is festive and good, but doesn’t steal the entire day AND can be enjoyed without tipping the scales way, way over.

If you are the same, here are a few of my favorite, go to, quick Holiday Treats.  All tested.  All a wee bit healthier.  All delicious!

Angel Food Ice Cream Cake

images-3This recipe in the link calls for vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream.  I love to use pistachio ice cream with vanilla and strawberry for a festive, fun cake.

Christmas Eve Trifle

White Chocolate Holiday Bark

Buckeyes

These are four of the most simple treats that will SO fool anyone around into thinking you spent hours in the kitchen AND that they just HAD to be loaded with calories!  Now you have one of my secrets . . .

What are your go to quick treats?  How much time do you spend making treats this time of year?  What are your favorites? Which can you just not do without? Check out other favorites #holidaysweat#sweatpink@fitapproach@runtothefinish

Enjoy Your Day!
