What I’ve Been Reading Lately. . .

What have you been reading lately?  Whether books, magazines, blogs, websites and articles, I always have something, or in reality, many things, at my bedside, by my chair,  at my desk,  and in my car to read.  Earlier this week I received a box from Amazon with a couple of books.  It’s a little like Christmas to get those boxes and new books!

I just began Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic. BigMagicFinal

I’m only a few pages in but am already drawn to Gilbert’s no-nonsense, self-depricating, yet inspiring writing.  It is described, partly by these words.

Gilbert encourages us to uncover the “strange jewels” that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work, embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy.

Doesn’t that just make you want to do something???

I admit that I am one of the world’s biggest fans of any self help, inspirational type of book.  I figure I need all the help I can get . . . So, my next read is Brene’ Brown’s book.  I haven’t read her, but have read so many great things about her that I figured I needed to see what all the excitement is about.  Have you read her?

I’ve also read a couple of great fitness/health related articles.

Precision Nutrition looks at how to eat a more plant based diet while still enjoying that burger now and then.  It’s a real way of looking at eating that follows my way of thinking.  Check out  Becoming a Vegetarian without Giving up Meat.

Have you heard of a butt wink?  Have any idea what that is?  It’s what happens when you go really low in your squat and lose your form – and it will make your low back quite unhappy.  If you think you might need a fix for your butt wink, check it out at Lifting Revolution along with other great info and tips.

The next thing I wanted to share is a fitness tip that I have been using lately and have recommended to some other folks.  I’ve had some tightness in my left QL (Quadratus lumborum muscle) and after trying a lot of different methods and stretching, this one has helped the most.  If you are having your own tightness in the QL, which run from about your bottom rib to your hip, and are experiencing low back pain because of the tightness, this is definitely worth a try!

And did you hear that Playboy will no longer have nude photos in the magazine?  I can now add that magazine to my reading list.  Ha.

What books are by your nightstand?  What are you reading now?  Are  you a fan of self-helps or no?  Any other good reads to share?

Enjoy Your Day!
