Soooo Ready for the Sun . . .

I’m all about the sun and warmth and the beach and, did I say the sun?  This winter cannot get over soon enough for me.  And our winter is NOTHING like the record snow storms and frigid temperatures suffered by so  much of the country.  I know that, but when you are born and raised in the South you just take it for granted that you’ll have a short,  mild winter.  Not so these past few winters . . . .

As we prepare for our Spring Break trip I’m almost giddy with joy about the prospect of going where it will be warm.  Where the sun will shine.  Where there will be water and sand.  We aren’t leaving for a few days but I am so very ready to get out of dodge that I’m starting to pack my bag.  In my attempt to be be good and stay healthy I am packing a few of my very favorite things for sunny days.

Gone are the days of basking in the sun.  Gone are the days of covering myself with suntan oil, baby oil or Crisco.  Yes, I’m ashamed to say I was one of those.  I’m trying to be so much better and make up for my past.  I have packed plenty of my favorite sunscreen.  Rodan & Fields has two products I won’t leave home without.   I LOVE this Rodan & Fields SPF 30 Sunscreen.

It goes on smoothly without any greasy feel.  It covers so well, stays on and does a great job – even on folks like me who seem to get sun regardless of what we do.

Formulated for all over the body use, ESSENTIALS Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Body Sunscreen is a lightweight, non-sticky and non-greasy broad spectrum sunscreen. It contains dimethicone to protect skin’s moisture barrier, antioxidant vitamins C and E to absorb damaging free radicals and anti-inflammatory ingredients to protect skin from environmental stress.

My other very favorite item is also by Rodan & Fields.  I keep these Broad Spectrum SPF 25 Lip Balms with me everywhere!  They are perfect soothers in the winter and give great protection in the sun.  Each package contains two lip balms that feel so good, without being glossy, that even all the boys in my house hunt these down.

This hydrating lip balm soothes, softens and protects lips from the aging and burning effects of the sun with SHIELDrf, an exclusive complex of stabilized avobenzone and anti-oxidant/anti-inflammatory colorless carotenoids for effective UVA sunscreen protection. This non-waxy formula contains collagen-stimulating peptides to smooth lip texture, lipid molecules for long-term moisturization and dimethicone to protect the delicate moisture barrier. Vitamins A, C and E provide anti-oxidant protection, while shea butter, avocado and sunflower seed oil hydrate and   moisturize

Looks a little like The Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter movies, doesn’t it?

A couple of years ago The Husband gave me this fabulous hat by Kokin.  It is made from a light seersucker material and is ridiculously wide with just enough flop to cover not only my head and face, by my neck, chest and shoulders. It also packs well so I don’t worry about permanently “smushing” it.  It does have a little wire in the rim so it can be molded and folded however I need.  This company makes great hats, but they are pretty pricey.  The Husband found this one on a special through the Gilt website, so he got a deal.

So now that I have myself protected and under cover from the sun, I’ve been searching and asking for some new good reads.  Since I’m not on Facebook, I asked my Instagram friends for recommendations.  I loved hearing from them and loved all their recommendations.  Sadly, I had read them all!  So, I had to search more and here’s what I have downloaded on my Kindle.

I also found a  new book to listen to.  I have read Lisa See’s books and loved all of them.  Somehow I’ve missed China Dolls so I’ll have this to listen walking, hiking or just sitting on my fanny.

One of my healthy hints for getting through this winter is to use lots and lots of sunscreen – whether you are in a warm climate or in the frigid areas.  The sun still shines and glares right upon your skin!  That lovely sun causes all sorts of damages so please protect yourself!  My other healthy hint is to find some time to wind down.  My “wind down” is with a good book. Find yours and take time for yourself.  Mini recharges and mini vacations throughout the day or week keep us all fresh, sane and healthy.

Are you a warm weather or cold weather vacationer?  Beach or skiing?  How do you protect yourself from the sun?  What good books have you read lately?  Have you read any of these?  What did you think?

I hope you are Enjoying Your Day!
