My Go To Breakfast . . .

I have been on a breakfast smoothie kick lately.  Even though it’s cold, wet and nasty most of the days here it seems to be what I want.  I make sure it is full of protein and chock full of fruits and vegetables.  My normal routine is to make it in the morning before I walk out the door.  I have a few sips before teaching or working out and save the rest for a protein recovery following the workout.  It’s always so good and satisfying I’m usually completely satisfied until the afternoon.

I’m often asked what I put in my smoothies and how I make them.  While I don’t follow a “recipe” my standard base is this:

4 cubes of ice

1 scoop Whey Vanilla Protein Powder

1/2 Banana

1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

From there it all depends on what I have fresh on hand.  Maybe 4 strawberries and a palm full of blueberries and a handful of fresh Kale.  Maybe its a couple of celery stalks, half of an apple, a handful of spinach.  Sometimes it might be a kiwi, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, a few raspberries.  You get the idea.

This week I strayed from my normal recipe and had what turned out to be a Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie.photo copy 2

Here’s what I mixed in the Vitamixer:

4 ice cubes

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

1 scoop PB2 Powder

1/2 Banana

1/2 Cup Vanilla Greek Yogart

1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

It was SO good!  It would have made a great afternoon or evening snack!  Who says it has to be a breakfast only smoothie?  The Middle Son has also gotten on the protein shake or smoothie kick.  I make him one for his breakfast and he makes his own the minute he gets home from his after-school workout.  Our Vitamixer stays pretty busy!  It barely gets washed and dried before it’s being filled up again.  Love that thing!

What are you eating for breakfast these days?  Do you love smoothies as much as I do? What’s your favorite?

Enjoy Your Day!

The Halter fam LOVES smoothies for breakfast and snacks too! Our boys’ favorite is a chunky monkey – banana, PB, cacao powder, almond milk, honey and ice. But we also do loads of fruit and veggies too – the vitamix is our best friend 🙂
