I love, love, love Halloween.  I’m not exactly sure what my fascination is, other than it’s just a night of plain fun.  You dress up as anything your heart desires, scary, funny, goofy, serious, who cares?  And, you give out and receive candy.  Who ever came up with the whole idea was just looking for some fun.
I’ve always been a big “dresser upper” and really got into it with my boys – yes even the grown up boy.  However, sadly, a little of all of that nonsense has evaporated a bit as the boys have gotten older.  Sigh.  One thing we still have to deal with around Halloween time, though, is the candy.  Yep, you know what it’s like having pre-Halloween candy and leftover Halloween candy around.  It’s all fun and games until someone gains a couple of pounds from having all that chocolate and sugary temptation around for too long . . . .So, this is what I tell folks are my tips – and I follow them mostly, except I admit I slipped on #1 this year . . . and I have the leftover wrappers to prove it.1.  Do NOT buy your Halloween candy yet!  Wait until the very last minute, lest you be tempted every single day to open the bag!  And I know some folks say put it in the freezer.  We all know that really doesn’t help.  It’s far too easy to sneak it out of the freezer!

2.  Keep count of what you do eat.  Those little mini Mr. Goodbar and Krackles tend to add up.  Keep the wrappers in front of you to remind you just how many you have eaten!

3.  Don’t buy full size candy!  (Although I heard Kelly Ripa say she absolutely was buying full size candy bars this year.  Well, she can afford a candy bar or two I’m thinking!)

4.  If you indulge in candy, enjoy it and move on.  One splurge, even every day, won’t throw you back.  Get back on the horse and on with your day.

5.  Let your children choose what to keep and donate the rest.  (We always had 1/3 rule.  The boys would go through the candy and make a bag for themselves and a bag for me to donate.)  Then I would try to get the donated candy out of the house pronto!

As I’m feeling a little nostalgic, here are some of my faves from Halloweens past. . .
