How I Love Cookbooks . . . Take a Look at these!

I LOVE a good cookbook.  I can sit down and read a cookbook like a novel.  I think it might be a Southern thing.  My mom, aunt and sister-in-law all share this crazy habit.  And there is NO such thing as having too many cookbooks!  Sometimes, though, storage does get to be a little bit of a problem.  I hate to get rid of a cookbook!

Before I began my self-imposed “Savings Spree” where I am challenging myself NOT to buy anything for myself until January (and boy is it becoming a challenge!) I purchased two new cookbooks.  I am so happy with both of them.  I’ve been turning to both for meal, salad, snack and even dessert inspiration.  So, of course, I’m here to share.

I mentioned Danielle Walker’s new cookbook Against all Grain in my last post.  I made her carrot cupcakes for an event and they were so good!  I mentioned I would share a cookbook review so here it is.

This is a beautiful book, both in the story behind Danielle’s decision, based on her health, to choose food and a paleo diet in order to heal, and in the content of the book.  The photos are so beautiful and the food is simple, wholesome and, based upon my experiences so far, delicious.  The meals I have prepared for my boys have been gobbled up.

So far, I have prepared the Beef Stroganoff, Chipotle Barbacoa, Ropa Vieja and Barbecue Salmon.

I will be happy to prepare all of them again.  But, before I do that there are so many other dishes I have marked to serve!  They are all easy, full of fresh ingredients that are easy to find at the grocery and nothing too fancy, complicated are “weird” that would be foreign to my boys.

This was a VERY good purchase!  I’m so glad I made it!  If you are not on your own No Shopping Challenge, check it out here from Amazon!

The next cookbook on my reading list is Giada’s Feel Good Food.  This cookbook is full of recipes that look just as beautiful, full of fresh, healthy ingredients.  Additionally, each recipe includes the nutritional value so you can keep up with calories, protein, sugar, sodium, etc.   There are also health tips and habits of Giada throughout the book for inspiration.  Now, to be perfectly honest, and you know I always am, I have not always been the hugest fan of Giada.  I used to try to watch her on FoodNetwork when she started out and she made me a little crazy.  She seemed just a little too perfect and contrived for me.  Flash forward to these days and she has grown on me.

I admit that I have not cooked as many dishes from this cookbook, but believe me, the California Turkey Chile and Garlic-Roasted Chicken and Root Vegetables are both soooo good!  Tonight I’m trying the Turkey, Kale and Brown Rice Soup (Perfect for the rainy day here in Atlanta) and the Crispy Chickpeas to snack on.

I think I’ll be just as happy with this cookbook.  Even looking through the photos and reading it makes me want to make healthy choices and inspires me to eat fresh, whole foods.  Again, if you are up for a little shopping, check it out here!

I’d love to know if you have either of these cookbooks, cooked from them and what you think!

Have a GREAT day!  I hope your weather is calm and peaceful and you are staying safe!
