I walked into my normal time and day to teach a class at the Y recently and everyone told me I looked so tan.  I couldn’t figure out what they were talking about.  I hadn’t been to the beach, a lake, or really even by a pool.  I hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary except maybe do some yard work, walk the dogs, sit through a couple of baseball games outside and do a little late afternoon reading outside.  That’s about the extent of my “sun” time.  It made me realize, though, that that’s all it takes to get sun and sun damage.  Gone are the days of slathering up in Crisco or baby oil (come on, don’t judge me.  If you are of a “certain age”, you know you did that!) .

I now lather on the sunscreen and ALWAYS wear a hat when in the sun.  I am really good at NOT getting sun on my face.  However, I also now pay close attention to my neck, chest, arms and knees.  Yes, ladies, the knees.  Think about how the sun gets to them any time you have on shorts!

So, I’m going to share with you a very favorite Sunscreen Product.  I have been a fan of Rodan & Fields skincare products for quite some time.  The two female doctors who began the company have a great philosophy about being healthy inside and out.  I keep their sunscreen on hand at all times.  Especially for The Husband who wears the stuff year round.  He is known to have a complete white clown face if I don’t have him rub in his sunscreen.  It’s his “look”  I guess.

I want you to have some sunscreen so you’ll have no excuse!  Keep it in your purse, your car, wherever, but use it!  I have TWO Sunscreens for TWO readers.
Here’s the description:

Formulated for all over the body use, ESSENTIALS Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Body Sunscreen is a lightweight, non-sticky and non-greasy broad spectrum sunscreen. It contains dimethicone to protect skin’s moisture barrier, antioxidant vitamins C and E to absorb damaging free radicals and anti-inflammatory ingredients to protect skin from environmental stress. 150 mL/5.0 fl. oz.

I LOVE this stuff!

Now, on to some HAPPY stuff!  Have you had a chance to check out Happify?  Click HERE.  I’m not saying it will change your life or anything like that, but it can help put a smile on your face.  Sometimes, that’s change enough!

Which leads to something I read last night that goes right along with being HAPPY.  The article was titles “6 Things Highly Productive People Do Every Day”.  In closing, the article stated
“How should you strive to feel when working?  Busy, but not rushed.  Research shows this is when people are happiest.  . . . . Helping others takes time but research shows it makes us feel like we have more time.  And it makes us happier.  Once you are more productive you’ll have a lot more time to fill.  So why not use them to make others and yourself happier?”

Check out the article here.

My worst sunburn happened in 2001 while on spring break from UGA. Not one of us in the group wore sunscreen and we paid dearly for it. Since that time I make it a habit to always put on sunscreen.

When I met Lang at Destin 23 years ago, I had sun poisoning “rash” on my stomach. She didn’t mention how grossed out she was until a few years later.

Terrible sunburn many times as a child. I can remember long days at the pool and my shoulders peeling like crazy. I wish I could undo all the damage now. I never go in the sun without sunscreen!

In my early 20’s I took a trip “down under ” during our winter ; their summer. I fell asleep on the beach the day I arrived. The entire trip was spent with yucky peeling skin. To this day, I can see the damage done.

I remember having sunburn so badly after laying out with friends at the beach as a teen….my skin would hurt so horribly that I couldn’t sleep and it would blister up after a few days! Really?!? That’s a 2nd degree burn!! My parents liked us to “get some color” so there was no sunscreen until after we were already burned! But, in their defense, there was really only SPF 2 or 4 back then!

Ok, I am totally dating myself here….my mom had a sunlamp and one day after school I got into her closet and sat right underneath it for probably 10-15 minutes. My face felt really hot and red by dinner, and by the time I went to bed I wanted to cry. The worst was the next day my eyes were swollen shut and my lips looked like they were two balloons.
