PictureLook for this bear in the Greek style Chobani ad

Look how far we’ve come!  Think of the Super Bowl coming up.  If you are like me you think of all of the advertisements.  Well, this year, forget about Bud Light v. Miller Lite, Coke v. Pepsi and the popular rivals.

There’s a NEW PRODUCT in town to be marketed over those coveted and pricey ad spots during Super Bowl XLVIII .  And of all things, it’s Greek Yogart!

Who would have thought?  If you aren’t a lover of Greek Yogart or don’t know what the big deal about it is, I’ve written about it here.  I’m all for it, but didn’t think I would have seen the day when it would get the same attention, ad space and push as the other Bowl advertisers.  I’m thrilled!  It will be so much better watching an ad for something healthy and tasty rather than an ad for Dorito’s!

The two Greek-style yogurt that will be duking it out are Chobani and Dannon Oikos.  Of course, there will also be commercials for M&M’s and Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups.  There will be the standard Coke commercials and Pepsi sponsors the halftime show, so there will be plenty of junk food represented.  But, I think it’s interesting that two yogurts, Wonderful pistachios, which will have two commercials, both with Stephen Colbert; and an all time favorite, low-sugar cereal, Cheerios, and Dannon Oikos will give a healthy balance to the typical junk food ads.

Chief executive and founder of Chobani says, “We’re saying that we need to make the food revolution happen,  better food for everybody.”  “We want to deliver a message that we’ve been about from the beginning:  Making chobani mass; why not everywhere?”

I hope it does begin a national conversation.

The rival, Dannon, will run a 30-second spot for Dannon Oikos.  Last year it had an ad in the Super Bowl with its hunky spokesperson John Stamos.  This was the first time a yogurt ad had ever been brought during a Super Bowl.

Last year there was an estimated 108.4 million people that saw the Super Bowl, on Feb. 3, 2013.

“What Chobani believes it offers is summarized by an announcer’s declaration: A cup of yogurt won’t change the world. But how we make it might.”

I like this message being put out there by these two companies.  There are good, tasty, healthy alternatives right under our noses!  That container of Greek yogurt is going to go a long way to fill a person up and give them energy – much farther than that bag of Doritos!  (sorry Doritos – I must admit you were one of my favorites back when I was15!)  I’m looking forward to seeing how these companies shed light on their products, bring some humor and, hopefully, help their product sales grow as folks make better choices.

Now, on to a personal note, I’m heading out tonight to spend the weekend with my two best girlfriends from highschool.  Weeeee!!  I’m SO excited!  I think it’ll be freeeeeeezing cold, but I don’t even care!  I foresee lots of chatting, lots of lounging, lots of letting the hair down.  That’s gotta be healthy, right??  I saw these cocktail napkins and had to get them for the weekend. . .

DO YOU HAVE FRIENDS LIKE THIS?

At the Super Bowl do you watch the game or the ads?  Bet you can guess what I watch!  What are your plans for the weekend?  How cold will you be?  Do you still have that connection with highschool friends?   Don’t you think there’s just something about spending your teens with folks that makes them pretty special  Sharing all the angst, pimples, proms and drama?

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!  STAY WARM OUT THERE!
