The Dog Days of Summer . . .

Some folks call this time of year The Dog Days of Summer.  Obviously, my own dogs are taking full advantage of the last days of summer!  As Labor Day approaches it always means two things, I say two because Labor Day always marks the Middle Son’s birthday and since he is family I best not forget that!  The second is the more obvious, the end of summer.  I’m always a little sad to see it come.  Among all of the summertime activities that will be put on hold, the one I miss the most is reading time.  The busyness of the rest of the year makes it really hard to get in as much reading as I would like.  I read some good reads this summer.  I even strayed from my norm and devoured a few completely “fluff” novels.  If you know me, you will be shocked to see that I also strayed from my beloved historical fiction books.  I know it’s so cheesy but I just love a good historical story filled with a king, queen or anything Tudor – I just can’t get enough!  I actually went all summer holding off until the last!
Here’s how it went:

If you haven’t read it, it’s a must

Very different story with a cool twist including Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

Jeanette Walls always has a good story to tell

And here begins the pure fluff!

Another feel good “beach” read

A good friend mentioned this one. It takes place in Atlanta and had me laughing at times

Not at all a fluff book. A poignant, sweet story of two teenagers fighting cancer

I listened to this one and loved a good car ride to hear more

And finally, a new historical fiction was released . . . The White Princess, just in time as I wasn’t reading anything!  It also follows The White Queen which I’ve read earlier and is also a miniseries on STARZ right now.  What perfect timing for my addiction!  So, you know where to find me on Saturday evenings at 9 pm.  Completely immersed in Queen Elizabeth, King Edward and all the Court intrigue.  Then I can turn to the book following her daughter’s life and reign as Queen to King Henry VII.

There you have it.  My summertime reads.  Thank you for lending and suggesting some of these great books!  I’m always open for more!  The queue  is empty . . .

What will you miss most from the Summer?  What are you reading now?  Any new suggestions?
