It is an unfortunate fact that the statistics are not behind those beginning their New Year Resolutions to get back in shape. (It doesn’t take a day or a month to gain the weight or get out of shape. It will take more than a day or month to reach a goal). I am here to say that it doesn’t have to be that way! That person sweating it out on the treadmill beside you might be the next success story. That person who might need a little advice on how to use the Smith machine might be on the verge of an amazing fitness journey that will turn him or her into your next trainer. You never know! So, be nice! Try not to get into a huff when you see the parking lot is especially full. Think of all the amazing benefits you get from being fit and active and how much better these new folks will feel by sticking with their new fitness routines!
If you are a regular gym goer you know it’s that time of year. The gym gets REALLY crowded now. The new year marks the beginning of a new fitness routine for lots of people. Therefore, they will be at the gym on the treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, lifting weights and attending classes. I read someone refer to these as “January Joiners”. I thought that was a great term. The gyms will stay crowded until about March and then the numbers will drop back to the usual number of regular folks that visit the gym to exercise. Some of you out there are counting the days until this happens. I have to admit I used to be one of those, too. Now, I say shame on that!
I say good for them for making the effort, getting out of their comfort zones and striving to be healthier! That’s a Win/Win for everyone . . .so, we all have to remember to Be Nice!
What are your Fitness Goals for the year? Do you have any New Year Success Stories? Has anyone given you the cold shoulder at the gym ta
