Ida Keeling is the world’s fastest nonagenarian. This 95-year-old Bronx set a world record at a track meet in northern Manhattan last week, running 60 meters in 29.86 seconds, according to ABC News. At 4-foot-6 and 83 lbs Keeling says she has always been the oldest person at her meets. That might be because she didn’t even take up running until she was 67! How cool is that!

My Half Marathon prep continues.  On Sunday I managed to run 9 miles per “the plan”.  I will admit that if I wasn’t running with a friend and I didn’t have a goal in mind, I would never have just started out on a fabulous Sunday afternoon to run 9 miles for fun.  The only fun was being able to say I did it.  That’s truly the longest I’ve run in about twenty years.  Yes, that’s right, and that makes me feel really old!
If you’ve run any kind of race you know there are lots of things racing through your mind standing at the starting line.  I’m always a little nervous or anxious and completely depend on adrenaline for a lot of the “umph”.  My husband sent me the following list of things half marathon runners will be thinking before the race.  Therefore, I take no credit for this list.  it is not my original thoughts; however, I will say I agree with them.  Although, I would have to say I would put number 2 in first place!

  1. Here. We. Go!
  2. I think I have to pee.
  3. If I finish before the van, I’ll be happy.
  4. Take it step by step.
  5. Speed up or get out of the way!
  6. It’s just a walk in the park…
  7. …Only 13.1 more miles.
  8. Did I feed the dogs before I left the house?
  9. Relax and enjoy the race.
  10. I can’t believe I’m here and doing this. I’m not the person I used to be. . . I’m awesome

And, you can start at any time or age!  Never say never. . .
What do you think before a big event or race?
